Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Five easy steps to maximise your JURA's Household Machines performance

  1. ALWAYS Change your filter every 2 months - Even if not prompted
  2. Descale* - Even if using a filter (Remove your filter before descaling)

*Recommended Guideline

North & Scotland - 1 time per year minimum
Midlands & Wales - 2 times per year minimum
London & South - 3 times per year minimum

  1. If not using a filter Descale Monthly
  2. DO a clean cycle with tablet every month if not requested
  3. Select the right grind for the right coffee ; avoiding a fine grind setting on oily roasts
Troubleshooting

FILL TANK PROMPT

  • First check that the magnet (inside the corner of the water tank) is able to move up and down. If this is not it, it may be clogged with sediment or been subject to stale water (creates a film if filtered). To losen this, use a little warm water.
  • Check that the magnet is in. (it can be dislodged by filter replacement). Replace and if necessary replace cap (encloses the magnet)
  • If the above has been checked it is probably a faulty sensor (Please contact 0844 257 9229)

FILL SYSTEM PROMPT

  • This highlights a blockage in the machine (this could be a steam pipe block, do usual test, remove steam nozzle and steamer attachment and see if this is internal or external) if steam pumps out a regular flow after frothing attachment has been removed; it IS a cleaning issue with the attachment
  • Check water tank is sitting correctly
  • Check that no foreign object is in machine filter base (where the water tank connects)
  • Try without the filter. This may be that the filter has disintegrated or been ran through a descale.
  • Check sieve at base of brew unit for dried coffee which creates a blockage. This is from delayed use without rinsing (been on holiday) or not setting a rinse cycle on switch off. (Basic cleaning procedures)
  • Note. When changing a filter you need to re boot the machine. Go through replacement as if you were doing it for the first time. Program the filter off switch to on, re-place filter; then the machine should draw through the filter (run off)

FILTERS/ SOFTENERS

The actual Claris Filter is technically a softener; filters remove foreign particles; softeners remove scale & particles. If you have a customer with a home installed 'filter system' this can be very confusing as it actually may be a 'softener'. (It will state on the appliance; but they are generally referred to as 'filters' hence the confusion) IF that consumer is then filtering with a Claris (again actually softening) the water is liable to go stale very quickly and easily attract bacteria.

FILL BEANS

  • Check lids are not damaged and in place
  • It can be the grinder - The coffee may be ground too fine for its roast/oil content
    1. To remedy run a coarse grind through your machine whilst running a black coffee
(It is not advisable to alter the grinder setting unless the machine is running)
    2. Run 4 to 5 coffees through your machine
    3. If the problem has been fixed, change the grinder back to the middle or to a less fine setting than previously used

LEAKING WATER TANK

  • Check the tank is sitting correctly on the water inlet
  • Check for debris in the base of the filter and the water inlet
  • Take the tank off and check for any cracks in the tank.
  • If the problem is continuing, the base seal on the machine may have deteriorated (These are always replaced in a service. If the machine is around 2 years old and never been into the Jura Service Centre then this may be the problem. Please contact 0844 257 9229)

  • ERROR MESSAGES

    1. Coffee thermo block
    2. Again coffee thermo block
    3. Steam thermo block
    4. Steam thermo block
    5. The machine is not heating
    • In the case of errors 1 to 5, Remove the machines plug from the socket and leave for two minutes. After two minutes, plug the machine back in and restart the machine. (The problem may have been that the blocks have been subject to adverse temperature change (left in the cold))
If the first time fails then please wait for four minutes and try again.
If the problem persists then please wait for a few hours with the machine standing in a room with a normal temperature and repeat.
If this is unsuccessful then please contact 0844 257 9229. Please note: Unplugging during this procedure is essential (don't just switch off)
    1. Ceramic valve problem - Unplug for 2 minutes and try again. If this does not work then unfortunately there is no easy way to fix this and it will need to be returned to JURA for repair. Please contact 0844 257 9229.
    1. Brew unit - This problem can be resolved, please see below

BREW UNIT

  • If the fault is intermittent; it could be a coffee residue build up.
  • The error message 8 means the brew unit is not reaching the correct position; you need to get rid of the message and this will mean the Unit is re-aligned
Check the grind setting and type of bean.
Run a coarse grind through the machine.
Best safety option is to SWITCH OFF for at least 20 seconds, then switch back ON.
If you can get the setting to 'ready mode' Immediately run a cleaning cycle (with tablet) through the machine. By doing this you clear any debris that may be left in the machine. After doing so, please follow the advice on the correct setting(s) and grind/beans under "My Coffee Tastes Bad"

My Coffee Tastes Bad

  • Two options:
    1. Poor beans
      • A poor beans problem could be down to irregular use of the coffee machine and simply that the beans have gone stale. Advice: Only half fill the hopper at a time to avoid the beans going stale.
      • If the coffee appears curdled. It is generally the beans.
    2. Poor water
      • The water may be being left too long in situe and therefore going stale.
      • The water may be undergoing 'double softening' see "Filters/Softeners" above
      • Build up of limescale in the machine could be causing the water to not be 'hot' enough.

Empty Drip Tray

  • If the drip tray is empty
    • Clean and dry the metal contacts on the back of the drip tray, ensuring that the gap between the contacts is clean and dry
(if present, contacts not on all JURA models)
    • Make sure that the plastic in between the contacts is clean
